So I haven't really gotten into using my DA account in the 2 years I've been on here... until now. Maybe a major part of this is that I haven't finished much work to post on here. I get distracted easily and move from idea to idea, hardly ever completing anything! Anyone else do this too? C'mon, tell me, I don't want to feel like the only one!

About a week ago me and a friend joined a few other artists in a nearby bar to sell art. It was a dead Sunday night, but there was no cost to the artists to sell there. I made my first bit of cash in a LOOOOOOOONG time off my art and it felt GOOOOOOOOOOOOD! So it was decided I would join another sale, a MUCH larger sale in one of the larger clubs in town. It's being well promoted on the news, in the papers, online, on the radio, etc. There should be many more people there, specifically looking for art! It's really exciting!

This week has been pretty crazy with me thinking about every little detail to maximize my efforts. A display wall of some sort HAS to be built! I'm thinking a simple frame with feet with a net hanging from it. The net will have prints and drawings and fairy wings clothes pinned to it. In the frame will be some nails to hold heavier drawings I am mounting onto Masonite. So this wall fits in a car, it will have to be short at only 5 or 6 ft high, and it will stand on a table I am borrowing from my roomy. The frame should have Christmas lights wrapped around it so it's really attention grabbing! I NEED business cards for possible commission work and such, but my budget is TAPPED! So my solution is to stencil my information into a business card and airbrush it onto cards I cut from comic book backing boards. Hopefully my cards come off as "creative" and "unique" rather than "cheap" :P Also, I bought parts to fix my old backup airbrush because my main one was stolen. I HAD an Iwata HP-C, but now I have to use a Badger 101 SG. The things that suck about this is the small paint cup empties SOOOOOO fast and it's designed for FINE work and isn't good for laying down large flat areas of color. Trying to find a solution to that. Also, I have the annoying splatters happening, I need to get a moisture trap on the hose and fiddle with the air pressure on the compressor. I WANTED to have airbrush work at this sale, but starting to doubt I'll fix these problems in time :S Out of all the stuff I can do artistically, airbrush is the most popular to get commissions for and I was REALLY hoping to get Xmas commissions at this sale :( Oh well, the table was only $25 and I expect to make more than that. I also invested $35 into the airbrush, $13 on watercolors, $4 on a bamboo brush, $30 on Masonite, $3 on tiny nails to mount the Masonite onto frames, something like $10+ on bus fares to gather materials... and who knows what else I'll have to get! Kinda regret the airbrush thing as that money could have made my groups' display area less ghetto than it will be. I wonder how we will look compared to people who do this often and have display walls and glass cases and nice frames on their work and lighting and all the works :S Yeah, it's a bit stressful doing all this so suddenly and in such a short time, but it's also really exciting and invigorating and if I just break even in sales, the experience is waking up my artistic muscles more than anything else I've done in awhile and is totally worth it! :D If any of you El Paso people read this, the sale is this Thursday, October 22nd at Club 101 from 5pm to 8pm for the main part, but it goes on until 2am.

Then after this sale, I have animation, oil paintings, comic books, and a cartoon pitch to work on. Hopefully I also have some paying commissions to add to the mix after Thursday :D

Yeah, I was looking up 24 hour comic day and came across you guys again :D HOw've things been in the EP comic scene? I kinda dropped out of that to focus on painting and stuff, but am starting to get back into art that doesn't require rich people to buy :P Lately I've been on a comedy kick in my comics... nothing fancy, just your good old dick, fart, and crack smoking jokes :D
:iconadversarycomix:
EP comics scene is a comicbook in itself, egos, drama, wife swapping, jail time, pron, martyrs turned villains, villains turned martyrs!

Not to mention the dick and fart jokes along with people who think they're the second coming when all they are, are second rate...but I digress!

best thing to do is keep your head down and work work work!

how about you?

I'm finding the work work work thing hard to do! I notice this is common in my other artistic friends, for the most part we are apparently lazy. I know we're not though because lazy people can't draw for 14hrs straight! I don't do it that often, but know that I'm not lazy. What is the problem? We all get emotional over dames! That is the common problem that seems to keep me and my artist friends from making it in art! I know the problem, and the solution would seem obvious... but I will NEVER suggest we take a break from dames! When you want one, what can you do but pursue? When you have one, what's to be done but be undone? Hunting and heartburn, over and over again...

My personal workload right now: Finish 2 animated music videos (I need to get some more RAM in my computer though) and I'm trying to finish several paintings that I've been procrastinating on for the longest time! After that I'm going to try pitching ideas to comics publishers and cable networks. In between all this I have to find a day job in a depressed economy... nobody is hiring me and it sucks! Got any westside job leads?
